[ so dave's definitely picking jade up the evening of valentine's. it's not, like, super late - more around five than the legitimate evening - and he's still nervous as fuck even though dirk said his plans were fine. they're not going out to dinner so much as they're going on a picnic - eventually. he's...not really dressed for what they are doing. dave's in black slacks and a black waistcoat and a red dress shirt. there's a red tie, because of fucking course there is. he cleans up nice when he's not in jeans and shirts, and valentines is a day you're supposed to clean up nice, isn't it?

he also has a bouquet of chrysanthemums and daisies, the flowers you told me months ago were her favorites. they're immediately thrust out at jade when she like, comes out. ]

Hey. You ready to go? [ how hard is he having to pretend he's not staring, hit me ]

[ i cant believe you managed to remember her favorite flowers

jade's been busy getting ready since school let out and she's definitely going to have a lot of homework to review before class tomorrow, but there's a lot to tame, here. her hair alone took her a half hour, but it is exactly how she wanted it. by some happenstance the pair match; her nicest dress is a black number with a heart shaped keyhole over her chest (it's valentine's day and this is jade, there has to be a heart somewhere) and lace, see through sleeves that she's fairly positive she's never worn in front of dave. maybe he's seen in it her closet, but there's never been an occasion special enough to pull out the black lace. until now, that is.

roxy had advised her against giving dave a heart attack and she doesn't hope for that, necessarily, but it's still a little black dress that ends mid-thigh. the only red here is the strappy heels; jade complains every time she wears heels but this tonight she's determined not to. she's probably not dressed for their date but jade doesn't mind - the intention is to give him something to look at. it's not like jade doesn't look, herself.

and her hair is a masterpiece of lazy loose curls. she worked hard on that shit. an hour and a half sharing a tiny mirror while her mother caked on her make up for the night. ]

[ the flowers are not new nor a surprise but that doesn't take away from them. it really doesn't matter how many times dave gives jade flowers, she loves them all and always hates when they inevitably die.

jade's carrying a bag, a simple non-descriptive brown one made of paper, but she takes the bouquet with a grin, shifting so that her wrist is carrying the bag. no, dave cannot carry it. you know exactly who that bag is intended for, dave. ]

Thank you, hehe. These are so pretty, I cannot wait to put them on my windowsill. [ like all the other flowers. SHE WANTS THEM TO GET SUN. ] I am definitely ready! What ever is on our itinerary? [ and. she is reaching out with her free hand. please hold her hand, jade loves nothing more on than planet than holding dave's hand. ]

[ oh okay cool this would be one of those times shades would come in handy. kill him. jade did her hair holy shit????? how could this be happening to him, an innocent guy? she's in a dress. with heels. she hates heels why the fuck did she wear heels - and like, he has a hard enough time not idly staring at her when she's in jeans and t-shirts so this is.

well it's like jade took his advice to dirk and upped the ante to kill him slowly, except he's actually dating her so it's less an attack and more. not that?

he immediately completes the gesture to hold her hand. this is also killing him, but. he will walk her down to the car. it is kind of older and like, not anything spectacular, but he shares it with siblings so w/e ]

It's a surprise. I mean, if you're chill with that - it will only be a surprise for like...five or ten minutes? But, uh, I can tell you if you're not chill with a surprise. I think you'll like it. Dirk thought you'd like it, too? Ran this shit by him and Roxy to be sure I wasn't, like, fuckin' it up entirely.

[ how can jade take advice she's never heard, though? this is just a dress she's had in her closet that she was saving for a special occasion because it made her feel like she was going somewhere nice when she tried it on. as much as she hates heels (they're not even her's, because of course they're not. she's never had a desire to wear heels before and all her heels end up sold for extra cash. god bless having the same shoe size as your mother), they just complete the look and having the extra few inches to close the gap between them is nice. it's a completely logical outfit and there is no killing occurring.

...all right, so maybe she had a little bit of an intention of looking as hot as possible, too, for their first actual date. a little bit.

if it makes dave feel any better, the paint job anya had done on her nails the night of founder's day is chipping away noticeably.

jade makes a mental note to get filthy fucking rich so that they can get a convertible so that she doesn't have to let go of his hand when they get in a car. just jump through the sunroof and call it a day. ]

I can wait! I like surprises. [ jade only relinquishes dave's hand to climb into the car. god, he even opens the door for her, she legitimately could not feel like any more of a princess than she does? ] I trust you, I am very sure it will be lots of fun, Dave. Buuut, before we go.

[ she waits until he's in, too, though, before clapping her hands together and leaning over, closer. god, jade loves giving people things. ]

Did you want to wait on gifts or can I spoil you now? Ehehe.

You can spoil me now because I'm curious.

[ although he. has chocolates and an iou? he didn't have time to upgrade from best friend to girlfriend? what with planning a date frantically and realizing anything he wanted to buy had shipping dates that wouldn't mesh with his schedule.

he turns to her, a little half smile on his face. ]

And then I will spoil you a little and we can be on the way?

[ good choice, and it's clear because jade claps her hands together she does this every holiday she gets to give people stuff? it's her favorite part ]

Ok, ok, but you gotta close your eyes for this part!

[ jade is already rummaging for gift one because gift one is a box. a velvet black box that closes magnetically and we're just gonna assume at this point dave is humoring his girlfriend who has the personality of an excitable puppy because she is barely waiting to pull a watch out and strap it to his wrist. it's probably blatantly a watch or a bracelet because there's not exactly much else that would be strapped to dave's wrist?

and then jade lets go and makes a little noise to let him know she's done. please. please look ]

[ dave will close his eyes? like a loser? or like a boyfriend on his first date with his girlfriend, eager to please and nervous as hell. he feels her strapping something to his wrist and figures it's a watch, yeah, but keeps his eyes closed until she lets go and makes a funny jade noise.

he opens his eyes to sheer awesome and there's immediately a delighted little smile on his face. ]

Holy shit? This is so cool lookin', what the fuck - [ it also looks. expensive. jade what did you Spend ] I love it, thank you?

[ SHE WINS A CHEEK KISS. 1 CHEEK KISS FOR HER. ]

[ yes perfect good that went well. jade also did not spend nearly as much as you think she did; as if elizabeth would let her daughter shop on her own without a few tips? ]

I didn't get you chocolate! I got you something better.

[ there's a clink as jade removes a six pack of... what's clearly apple juice to dave's keen eye, i'm sure, but the labels have all been glued over with short love letters: "you're the apple of my eye <3", "lost in the sauce with you!", "you got me at my core" and a few other apple jokes are scrawled on there. they are 100% sincere. and there's a card, too - handmade, clearly, because jade makes dave a handmade card every year. two pizza slices with googly eyes holding hands, they're made up of fuzzy felt, and macaroni and glitter art over them reads "ive got the smoo-cheese for you!"

Sorry I made you do this all on your own, but I hope this kind of makes it worth it?

[ holy shit?????? he loves all of this so much and will just. stow the apple juice in the back seat before leaning forward. he hesitates a second because of the last time they kissed and asks quickly: ]

[ jade almost says yes of course because jade wolf is pretty sure kissing is great and kissing dave strider is absolutely her current new hobby but.

on second thought it reminds her of a particularly bad nightmare that was all too real. ahaha. ]

[ see, that works. dave lets it happen and just kind of half smiles. ]

So, I think I know the answer to this, but - do you want your present now or later?

If you want to! [ not that jade is. saying no, mind you. she is, also, the one who walks in and immediately shoves her birthday gift at you in clearly excitement like a puppy waiting for you to throw the stick, tho. ] I just can never wait to give people things.

Ok, well. It's not as cool as yours, but. Eyes shut?

[ JADE GETS.......a box of chocolates, a ridiculous sbahj valentines card, and a mysterious IOU post-it note. for the record. ]

[ wow look at how wonderfully trusting these two are, closing their eyes on command.

sbahj is really the way to her heart, though. look at this. it's ridiculous and dumb and exactly her brand of humor. she's going to quote it for weeks. ]

[ if she was as bad as her mom she'd opt to try and hold his hand now, but thankfully jade isn't elizabeth. actually, you know what she hasn't complimented him yet: ] You even got all prettied up for me.

Because I have a thing I'm plannin' otherwise. And also, let's get this show on the road because I got us - well, reservations, but not for food yet if that's okay?

[ he grins at the compliment but will pause to let her buckle up and then buckle his own seat and like. START THE DRIVING PROCESS ? ]

[ she is beaming, though, because she's excited. it's their first date? their first date!! first date... ]

We're almost there. So you can, uh, close your eyes or keep 'em open, whichever.

[ THE DESTINATION IS............! a paint-it-yourself pottery studio place as previously discussed oocly ok ]

[ a paint it yourself pottery studio is a good choice. jade is incapable of sitting still in a movie theater (dave probably found this out firsthand) but she's also easily bored by fancy dinners (likely not a thing dave knows firsthand, but could guess by the fact she wiggles so much at the dinner table, anyway) - something to occupy her like this that also means they get souvenirs. it's a win/win.

anyway jade covers her eyes with her hands the entire time. she doesn't even peek, even though she definitely wants to. ]

Oh my god.

[ she already has an idea of what she's doing she loves this immediately?? ] Seriously?? Dave, that's perfect! [ the ladylike thing is to wait for your date to open the door for you

jade's not a lady, she 's seventeen and has the personality of an excited puppy. as such, that door is pushed open, and jade's waiting excitedly for dave, putting her hands on the hood of the car. ]
